Darling All,
Well Magpies, whilst the masses marauded and elbowed their way down Sloane Street and the King’s Road to the floral fantasia that was the other weeks’ Chelsea Flower Show (stout umbrellas were necessary to hack through the overzealous peony paparazzi), here at Baroque Rocks, even amidst this dizzying Diamond-hot heatwave, which somehow saw May slip effortlessly into June that demanded a brief cooling of our carats - we remained firmly focused on something far more efflorescent: the Darling Beryl buds of May!!
A gemstone dynasty of prismatic pedigree, the Beryl family encompasses some of the jewellery world’s most captivating treasures — from vivaciously verdant Emeralds to the aqueous azure hues of Aquamarines and the private banker’s pink of Morganites (together with the golden Helidor’s but we shan’t be blethering on about those). Literally Jilly Cooper’s Rivals but in gemstone form (and pssst… Season Two is upon us). Beryls, darlings, are for the impossibly well-adorned. So, herewith: May’s very late Edit!
First up, we have this marvellous Morganite & Diamond Statement Ring 2006— a gloriously grand ode to June’s other birthstone, Pearl (and yes, Magpies, we know it’s May (eek actually June now)… patience, Emeralds are incoming). A relative newcomer to the gemstone world, Morganite has long been revered as the stone of Divine Love, its peach-pink hues said to inspire compassion, joy and emotional harmony; vibrant vibrations only!!
Its moniker, meanwhile, is pure Gilded Age grandeur. Discovered in Madagascar in 1910 and christened by Tiffany & Co.’s legendary gemmologist George F. Kunz, Morganite was named in honour of financier, collector and gem-world titan J.P. Morgan — the polymath whose dazzling gemstone collection secured his place amongst history’s great gem gourmands. Oh, and lest we forget: JPMorgan — the biggest beast on the banking street — also happens to be Baroque Rocks’ alma mater before our fabulous foray into the bejewelled world.
Quite the luminous lineage for a stone already assured of its position as the best-dressed in the room — one simply needs to slip this deliciously decadent dame onto one’s digit!!! Et voilà!!
Next, we have this Aquamarine Trio Dress Ring dated 1999 — classic ‘n’ chic and positively awash with Riviera glamour. March’s birthstone known as the stone of courage, confidence and calm; an amulet of beauty, buoyant energy and if legend is to be believed perhaps even eternal youth – forget the Korean glass beauty products!! Deriving from the Latin aqua marina — “water of the sea” — Aquamarines were revered as talismans of protection and good fortune. The Greeks and Romans bestowed the sea-blue gems upon sailors for safe passage, while myths tell of mermaids amassing Aquamarines within their underwater treasure troves in exchange for soothing stormy seas. Whatever the weather this Aqua ring is the true triumvirate glow-up zeitgeist! Be that mermaid!

Treading the trifecta trope, we have this Emerald Trio and Diamond Ring dated for 2000!! If you are a Classicist, Pliny the Elder’s immortal declaration on Emeralds will surely resonate: “nothing green greener!” One knows one is onto a birthstone winner when history’s royals continue to covet a gemstone century after century. Cleopatra famously adored Emeralds, associating them with power, fertility and eternal youth… although, to add a little rock n roll to the historical status quo, modern historians suggest some of her treasured green gemstones may have actually been Peridots. Howzat for a gemmological mic drop?
Beetling across the Atlantic, the Inca rulers of Peru treasured Emeralds as sacred stones of immense prestige much to the astonishment of the conquistador Francisco Pizarro, who recorded vast Emerald-encrusted treasures amongst his plentiful plunder. Emerald’s royal reign continued through Europe: Queen Victoria received an Emerald engagement ring, while Princess Diana dazzled the world in her famed Disco Di Emerald choker — now worn by the Princess of Wales. Quite simply, Emeralds possess the ultimate global royal seal of approval.
Anyway, back to the Edit. As the triangle of luck would have it, Isosceles are firmly in — and in the most gloriously Modernist way. Bang on the trillion trend and bedecked with exquisite Emeralds to boot. Très en vogue, Magpies!!
Circling back to a classic — this Emerald and Diamond half eternity ring is the very definition of Romancing the Stone. Emeralds are widely regarded as the “stone of successful love”; its vivid verdant hues symbolising renewal, vitality and emotional balance whilst nurturing harmony and devotion. Frankly, make it your healing property!!!

Finally taking centre stage: an enormous Emerald and Diamond Cocktail Ring (t’would also make a marvellous engagement ring)! Few gemstones can rival Emerald’s royal résumé. To cite Pliny the Elder once more, he marvelled that “no colour is more delightful in appearance… nothing is more intensely green.” Evocative stuff — but more importantly, here’s a delicious little gem-world secret: exceptional-quality Emeralds can command higher prices per carat than Diamonds themselves. Very Rivals, no? The old guard may think Diamonds run the estate, but Emeralds quietly own the entire country pile. Proof, if ever needed, that this enormous, verdant beauty inspires serious collector reverence. Make them green with envy, we say!
So, dear Magpies, we hope you delight in the Darling Beryl buds of May and remember you never truly own a piece of Baroque Rocks, you simply steward it for the next generation. It’s a choice—the intelligent investor’s choice. ‘Bling’ it on.
Stay sparkling!
With love from Emma and the Baroque Rocks Team
