Baroque Rocks’ Guide to Storing Jewellery
Written by Baroque Rocks
Knowing how to store jewellery correctly is just as important as knowing how to clean it. Proper jewellery storage protects precious metals such as gold and silver, prevents gemstones from scratching one another and ensures your favourite pieces remain in pristine condition.
At Baroque Rocks, we strongly recommend that every jewellery lover owns a well-appointed treasure box — not one where your splendid cache is thrown in higgledy-piggledy, but one where a touch of OCD reigns supreme. Each piece should have its own space to breathe, ensuring necklaces do not tangle and gemstones do not rub together, scratch or chip.
The golden rule of storing jewellery is simple: avoid placing everything in one compartment. Jewellery should ideally be kept in a dedicated jewellery box or protective pouch, with each piece stored separately. This protects delicate gemstone settings and prevents chains from knotting themselves into unholy tangles.
Humidity also plays an important role in jewellery care. Jewellery should be stored in a dry environment with low humidity, as damp or hot conditions can tarnish metals and damage certain gemstones.
Some gems require particularly thoughtful storage. Pearls, for example, are soft organic gemstones that can easily be scratched by harder stones. They should always be stored separately in a soft pouch or lined jewellery compartment rather than loose alongside other jewels.
It is also wise to check your jewellery occasionally while it is in storage. Clasps, gemstone settings and chains can loosen over time, and spotting these issues early prevents the heartbreak of losing a precious gem.
At Baroque Rocks, every jewel is presented in a protective box or pouch designed to safeguard it between outings. Proper jewellery storage not only preserves the condition of your collection but ensures each piece is ready to shine the next time you reach for it.
After all, every great collection deserves a fitting treasure chest.
